The East Central ISD board publicly recognized police officers and school staff for lifesaving actions during a Dec. 3 medical emergency at Heritage Middle School.
Speaker 4 recounted that when Officer Leonard Embry arrived at the scene he determined the woman in the vehicle was in cardiac arrest, called for help and began life-saving measures. Officer Randy Richardson and Heritage staff members Jude Pereira and Betty Vasquez retrieved and activated an AED and provided chest compressions until EMS arrived, Speaker 4 said. "Through calm, decisive, and coordinated actions, this team delivered life saving measures and was able to restore a pulse and spontaneous breathing before EMS arrived," Speaker 4 said.
The woman, identified on the record as Sandy Rodriguez, joined the meeting to present medals of courage and quick action to the responders. The district and the woman's family expressed gratitude for the responders' actions. Board members applauded the group and recognized family members in the audience.
No formal policy change or action was recorded; the recognition was presented as a special acknowledgement during the meeting.
