The Bentonville High varsity dance team was recognized for winning its 11th state title and a national title in the kick category; senior Kennedy spoke about the team's discipline and plans to compete at Texas Tech University.
Board members recognized the Bentonville High School varsity dance team during the Feb. 17 meeting for a season that included an 11th state title and a national championship in the kick category.
Athletic director Billy Tibbs introduced coaches and team members, who described a season that included competing at nationals where the team reached finals in the jazz category (placing eighth among 33 teams) and won first place in kick. "We were only the Arkansas team to make it to finals in both of our routines," a coach said, and the kick victory was the first national title for the school and state in that category.
Senior team member Kennedy said the trophies and titles are meaningful but emphasized lessons in discipline and teamwork and noted she will compete next at Texas Tech University.
Board members applauded the students’ achievements.
