Palos Park honors longtime village clerk and recognizes community leader Dave Sanders

The Palos Park Board of Commissioners took time Feb. 23 to honor two long-serving community figures.
Mayor Milovich Walters recognized Maria Aragoni, who has served as village clerk since 2011 and is stepping down after approximately 15 years of service. The mayor reviewed Aragoni’s earlier role as director and activity coordinator at the Oak Lawn Senior Center, her founding and coordination of the Palos Park Senior Club (now the 55 and Better Club), volunteer service at Northwestern Hospital and Brookfield Zoo, and her participation in local organizations such as the Palos Park Garden Guild and Palos Park Women's Club. The mayor said Aragoni has called Palos Park home since 2005 and thanked her for steady service to the village.
The mayor also recognized Dave Sanders and his family for operating a community center and for providing programs including a children's farm, Farm and Nature Discovery School, summer camps, arts programming at the Log Cabin Center for the Arts, recovery-support programming, and years of hosting village events such as Arbor Day and Autumn in the Park. "We are better because of you," the mayor said of Sanders's long-standing contributions.
These recognitions were ceremonial; no council action was required.
