Summary
The board awarded a $1,788,621.66 contract to repair corrosion on the North Bank roof structure, add dehumidification and rooftop unit upgrades, and reinstall fire‑rated drywall; funding will come from LTFM and the district's ice levy over two fiscal years.
The Moorhead Area Public Schools board voted Feb. 23 to award a $1,788,621.66 contract for repairs and mechanical upgrades at the Moorhead High School Sports Center North Bank.
Facilities staff described the work as sandblasting and painting the roof structure, adding a dehumidifier to the north rink and an additional rooftop unit to meet current circulation and code requirements, and replacing drywall and exterior concrete walls with required fire‑rated assemblies after prior mold remediation. Facilities staff said a previous estimate for the project had been $1,962,009.27, and the low bid came in roughly 9% under estimate.
The director explained funding will be split between long‑term facility maintenance (LTFM) and the district’s ice levy: $500,000 from LTFM and the remaining approximately $1.29 million phased across two fiscal years from the ice levy fund. “That is how we're funding this project,” the facilities director said when presenting the bid summary and the recommended contract award.
Trustee Scott moved to approve the total bid; Trustee Keith seconded. The board voted in favor and the motion carried.
Facilities staff noted the facility’s overall condition is being actively managed through the district’s asset database; they said the district’s facility condition assessment (FCA) averages about 8.2% (better than a cited national average) and that ice‑making equipment will be evaluated this summer to plan future replacement needs.
Next steps: staff will proceed with contract award and schedule construction; trustees asked for follow‑up briefings on FY‑27 capital priorities and any impacts to operations during construction.
