City officials reported that a kinetic-bore operation damaged a transmission water main on Houston Street, disrupting service to the Oak Creek Estates subdivision.
The mayor said the break occurred Monday afternoon around 3 p.m. and affected approximately 200 homes. Utilities Director Timothy Robbins said utility-locate crews had placed locates in advance but the contractor’s rig was positioned directly over the city’s line and struck it while installing their utility. "They did hit their line as they were installing," Robbins said. He told the council crews had to dig out about 50 to 60 feet of line to locate fittings and make repairs and that staff will "send them the invoices" to recover impacts from the contractor.
City staff said notifications to residents were sent and expected water restoration to the subdivision later that evening. Robbins said the engineering and construction staff and the utility right-of-way coordinator would verify locates and approved plans to determine next steps.
