Summary
The Richland township and town of Ellettsville reorganization committee set deadlines for subcommittee drafts, passed a motion to post final subcommittee drafts before combining them, and heard public questions about how reorganization would affect residents' taxes.
The Richland township and town of Ellettsville reorganization committee met on Feb. 18 to discuss public outreach, subcommittee reports and next steps toward a proposed reorganization.
Town manager Mike Farmer said the committee has yard signs for businesses and residents and discussed funding for a billboard; committee members recommended timing promotional material closer to the vote. Members engaged with the builders association and discussed tabling at a local home show to distribute information.
Committee member Andrew Henry urged that subcommittee reports be published in unfiltered form on the website (ellotsvillerichlandinfo.org) and noted that contact information for volunteers and subcommittees is now posted. The committee set a schedule: draft subcommittee reports are due Feb. 27, final drafts on March 4, and the committee planned to use the reports to develop a comprehensive proposal by April 1.
William Ellis moved to post final subcommittee draft reports before they are combined into a final plan; the motion passed unanimously. During public comment, Ellettsville resident Lisa McCarchuck asked how reorganization would affect taxes; Ellis said tax impacts remain fluid and will depend on services outlined in the final plan and pointed people to the website for details. The committee will meet again on Feb. 25.
