The Arcata City Council approved its consent calendar on Feb. 18, including a $2,500 sponsorship for Bright and Green to provide reusable dishware at community events, such as the Saturday farmers market.
During public comment, a vendor and Joanna McGarry urged the council to expand support for the reusable-dishware program, arguing it reduces landfill waste, lowers event cleanup burdens, and aligns with Arcata's climate goals. One commenter said the program had already provided reusable service at local events and called for additional city support to build the reuse infrastructure.
After public comments, a council member moved to adopt the consent calendar and another seconded. The council approved the consent calendar by voice vote.
The consent calendar also included routine items such as approval of meeting minutes, a biweekly disbursements report, a lease authorization for property at 4700 West End Road, Resolution 256-38 (extending the local emergency caused by the downtown fire of Jan. 2, 2026), and a $20,000 amendment to a consultant agreement for franchise-negotiation assistance.
No separate discussion or votes were recorded on individual consent items. The sponsorship will enable Bright and Green to continue providing reusable tableware at city events, subject to administrative execution of the relevant documents.
