Council adopts Murrieta Fire District FY25-26 budget with Measure T transfer

After a short staff presentation and a public hearing with no speakers, the Murrieta City Council on June 17 unanimously adopted the Murrieta Fire District's fiscal-year 2025-26 operating budget.
Finance staff highlighted revenue drivers for the district, including property-tax increases, growth in charge-for-service revenue and other miscellaneous income. Staff also recommended an operating transfer from Measure T of $6,250,000 to help balance the fiscal year budget and to increase the district's operating reserve to 30% (about $975,000 of the transfer referenced).
The budget adoption followed a public hearing that drew no public testimony. Councilmember Ron Holiday moved approval, which was seconded by Councilmember Lisa DeForest; the motion passed unanimously, 5-0.
The adopted budget will allow the district to revise reserves and continue district operations while staff monitors revenue performance and returns with future quarter updates as needed.
