Trussville board recognizes retiring principal, fundraising and student academic and athletic honors

The Trussville City Schools Board of Education opened its meeting with a series of recognitions celebrating student and staff accomplishments.
Superintendent and board members recognized Joy Tyner, the retiring principal of Cahaba Elementary School, and thanked her for her leadership (SEG 072–076). Payne Elementary was highlighted for raising more than $70,000 for the American Heart Challenge last year; presenters said nearly 200 students completed the program’s hands-only CPR challenge (SEG 088–128).
The board also recognized two National Merit Commended Scholars, Taylor Allen and Claire Chen (SEG 137–149), and introduced Metro middle-school basketball champions and state-title-winning track athletes. The board recognized a national champion cheer squad and congratulated coaches and students for year-round participation and community service (SEG 177–556).
The recognitions were presented as celebratory items; no board action was required.
Board members and community members applauded the students and coaches for academic, athletic and service accomplishments.
