Marquette commission approves board appointments, reappointment and reschedules March meeting

The Marquette City Commission approved several personnel and procedural actions during its Feb. 23 meeting, voting unanimously on appointments, a reappointment and a date change for the first March meeting.
Commissioner Hanley moved to appoint Michael Toominen to the Board of Zoning Appeals, Ashley Saari to the Arch and Culture Advisory Committee and Susan Esler to the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee (terms as read into the record). Mayor Pro Tem Ottaway seconded the motion, which passed on a recorded voice vote of 6 to 0.
The commission also approved the reappointment of Jim Compton to the Marquette Area Wastewater Treatment Advisory Board for a term ending Feb. 1, 1929; Commissioner Larson made the motion and the reappointment was seconded and approved unanimously.
The consent agenda was accepted by motion of Commissioner Larson and carried 6–0.
Under new business, City Clerk read a brief statement noting a scheduling conflict among multiple commissioners. Commissioner Davis moved to reschedule the first regular city commission meeting in March to Monday, March 16, 2026, at 6 p.m.; the motion passed unanimously (6–0). The clerk noted no fiscal effect from the date change.
The actions recorded in the meeting were procedural and administrative; no policy or budgetary measures were adopted during these votes.
