Board approves Peralta Road right-of-way amendment for $22 million paving project

The Pinal County Board of Supervisors approved an amendment Jan. 21 to an assignment of right-of-way with the State Land Department for Peralta Road. Celeste Garza, public works deputy director, told the board the action perfects right-of-way across approximately a 6.1-mile corridor to a trailhead and extends county-controlled acreage to support paving work tied to a 2020 federal lands grant.
Garza said the amendment would provide a typical 60-foot right-of-way and that the current project estimate is "about a $22,000,000 project as it sits today" without multimodal enhancements. The project is described as paving an all-weather access route to a regional park and trailhead; Garza said the work will not add multimodal elements at this time but is intended to ensure long-term access and public safety.
A member of the public representing Gold Canyon Community Inc. asked about access planning and opportunities for intermediate stops and connectivity; Garza and staff noted the current fiscal-year parks master-plan update could identify additional access improvements.
The board moved, seconded and approved the right-of-way amendment by voice vote with no recorded opposition. Staff said the work supports an existing federal grant agreement and is part of the county's long-range planning for the area.
