District completes major summer facilities work, installs security glazing in entrances

The district’s facilities director described a busy summer of maintenance and safety upgrades across schools, highlighting work intended to improve durability and security before the school year.

Key projects completed or nearing completion included boiler internal inspections and tube replacements, lift-station rebuilds, heat-pump and package-unit maintenance, parking lot striping and crack sealing, portable building repairs and roofing work, perimeter fencing (including privacy slats where needed), a new deck for classroom spaces, and stadium furnace repair. Facilities staff reported completing a major soccer-field renovation and installing improved stage lighting at the middle school.

The director emphasized security glazing upgrades: vestibules and key office windows now have ballistic film intended to keep glass intact during an active‑shooter event so that law enforcement can respond without shattered glass creating immediate egress. "All of our vestibules in the school plus some other key areas all now have ballistic film in there," the facilities director said.

Facilities will continue a long-range planning process, including a facilities condition assessment and a long-range facilities committee slated to begin meetings in late October, with a potential board presentation in April on long-range findings.

Board members asked about air-conditioning solutions for hot classrooms, potential high-ticket fixes at the middle school (variable-air-volume/terminal box installations), and winter readiness; staff said some projects remain but that they will present more detailed estimates as planning proceeds.
