City Clerk summarized the recruitment process after Tom Beamish resigned in May and the alternate candidate declined full appointment. The clerk said one eligible applicant, John Rose, was available and recommended the council interview him; Council Member Lisa DeForest and Council Member Holliday had served on a subcommittee that interviewed Rose and recommended appointment.
Council waived a full council interview, moved and seconded to appoint Rose, and the motion carried unanimously, 5-0. After the vote Rose thanked the council: "All I can say is, I'll do my very best and, I hope a year from now, you'll be sitting here saying I'm glad I selected him." The clerk noted the appointment was intended to help avoid potential planning commission quorum issues in the near future.
The appointment fills a vacancy on the five-member planning commission; terms, specific start date or administrative onboarding were not discussed in detail at the meeting and staff said they would proceed with standard appointment procedures.
