Murrieta engineering updates: signals, overlays and road widening projects underway

Murrieta City engineering staff presented a summary of active capital improvement projects during the Nov. 19 Murrieta Traffic Commission meeting.
Staff reported recently completed work including a new four-way signal at Washington Avenue and Weeping Willow; pavement rehabilitation and asphalt overlay on Myriad Hot Springs Road between Whitewood Road and Margarita Road; pavement work on Clinton Keith Road from the western city limits to Grand Avenue; and slurry seal operations covering roughly 25% of residential streets and some collectors.
Projects now in design include a new signal at Jefferson Avenue and Magnolia Street; modified signal phasing at Clinton Keith Road and Nutmeg Street to add a protected left-turn phase; pavement rehabilitation and overlay of Jefferson Avenue from Los Alamos Road to Nutmeg Street; Menifee Road conversion from a roughly 500-foot dirt section into a paved road; and adding a northbound travel lane on Whitewood Road between Hunter Road and Clinton Keith Road. Construction work under way includes pavement rehabilitation on Los Alamos Road, Antelope Road and Elm Street, plus a right-turn pocket at Altamirietta Drive serving the Sam's Club Plaza and a multi-lane widening project on Merritt Hot Springs Road from Margarita Road to Winchester Road (four to six lanes).
No funding amounts or schedules beyond broad timing estimates were provided in the briefing. Staff indicated design completion for the listed signal projects is anticipated in the first quarter of next year and that some construction items are expected to begin in summer next year. Commissioners had no substantive objections and the commission moved on to the discussion item about school-area striping.
