Hibbing council approves partial vacation of right‑of‑way in Victory Acres

The Hibbing City Council on Dec. 3 approved a motion to vacate specified portions of city right‑of‑way in the Victory Acres subdivision after a staff presentation and public‑hearing process that had been continued from Nov. 19.
City staff described the petition by property owner Mr. Jarmer and shared a plan showing proposed red‑hashed areas recommended for vacation. City staff (Mr. Storey) explained utilities and a city water line occupy the center crosspiece and the right‑hand side of the area, and therefore the recommendation limited the vacation to portions that do not impede access to utilities. Mr. Jarmer told staff he understood and was comfortable with the revised scope.
After the staff presentation, councilor Swiberger moved to close the public hearing and councilor Sander moved to approve the recommended vacation; the motions carried on voice votes.
