Little Rock Police Department held a graduation ceremony for recruit class 116. Major Eric Hinesley opened the event, recognized Mayor Frank Scott Jr., City Manager Devon Hiller, members of the Little Rock Board of Directors and other dignitaries, and thanked families and supporters for the recruits’ completion of the 24-week training program.
Mayor Frank Scott Jr. delivered remarks emphasizing community, trust, integrity and the department’s focus on community policing. Class leader Ryan Hensler spoke on behalf of the graduates, thanking trainers and staff and reflecting on the physical and academic rigors of the academy. The department presented badges and certificates to the named recruits and recognized individual awards: the Sergeant Cedric Roy physical fitness award to Logan Williams (average score 97.5), firearms excellence to James Jacobs (99.6%), academics excellence to James Jacobs (98.6%), and overall honor graduate Evan Vess (overall score 92.8). Bethel University’s College of Public Service awarded a $5,000 scholarship to Evan Vess.
Judge Jill Camps administered the oath of office, in which recruits pledged to support the U.S. and Arkansas constitutions and to faithfully discharge duties for the city of Little Rock. A chaplain offered a prayer for the recruits and their families before the class was dismissed for its final march-out.
