Doral council approves ordinances on OFAC business compliance, noise rules and street vacation

The Doral City Council voted Feb. 18 to approve three ordinances addressing business compliance with federal sanctions, noise regulations, and the vacation of certain streets.
The council approved ordinance number 20 26 0 3, described in the meeting as a code amendment to require businesses that do business with Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)-sanctioned countries (the clerk cited Cuba as an example) to comply with applicable federal sanctions. The ordinance text read into the record said businesses operating outside the scope of those regulations could face license revocation. No members of the public spoke for or against the measure before the council moved to a roll-call vote; the clerk recorded affirmative replies from Councilman Rafael Pinedo, Councilwoman Nicole Reynoso and Mayor Christie Fraga and the chair announced the motion passed.
Also on the agenda, the council adopted ordinance number 20 26 0 1, an amendment to chapter 26 of the city code dealing with noise. Staff told the council there were no changes since the ordinance's first reading on Jan. 15. The item drew no public comment and passed on second reading after a motion and roll-call vote.
The council likewise approved ordinance number 20 26 0 2, creating provisions in chapter 38, article 7, concerning the vacation of streets. As with the other items, the clerk opened public comment and none was offered; staff reported no changes since first reading, a motion and second were made, and the roll-call vote carried the ordinance.
All three measures were presented, opened for public comment, and advanced with no recorded public speakers. The council concluded the meeting with brief remarks recognizing the youth serving as mayor for the day and then adjourned; the chair announced the next meeting would be held in March.
