Youth advisory council hears high-school updates, Model UN wins and plans outreach

The Mayor's Youth Advisory Council met Oct. 21, 2025, and members updated one another on school activities, extracurricular achievements and outreach plans before adjourning.
Members opened with the pledge of allegiance and moved into high-school reports. Ethan Lehi, a student at Fort Zumwalt North, said the school's football team beat Northpointe during a recent "pink out" event and announced a new math club that will begin recruiting next Thursday. "It's a math club, and we're interested for anyone to join," Lehi said, and he noted PSAT testing and tutoring for juniors and sophomores "on the 20 second and 20 third."
Emily Wen, who identified herself as a Liberty High School student, said Liberty and the Wentzville School District recently held an ACT testing day. She highlighted the school's Model United Nations program, saying the council sent four students to the Washington University Model United Nations symposium and that three students won awards: "We had Charles Drew win an honorable mention," Wen said, "Keena Bosscher ... win best delegate," and Wen added she won best delegate for a role as John F. Kennedy in an alternate-history committee. "I'm very proud of the Model UN at Liberty," she said.
Rathee Thiagarajan, also from Liberty High School, outlined upcoming Key Club activities tied to Pink Night and Halloween charity efforts: Key Club will sell "pink night" ribbons to raise breast-cancer awareness and will run a "Trick or Treat for UNICEF" neighborhood fundraiser. "If you're interested and if you live in the area and if they happen to knock on your door, please do not hesitate to donate," Thiagarajan said.
The council then discussed outreach goals for the coming year, including broader promotion of the annual municipal candidate forum to increase youth voter participation and the need to recruit underclassmen as current seniors prepare to leave. Members also mentioned planned activities such as a visit to the water treatment plant.
Before adjourning, Thiagarajan moved to end the meeting; Ethan Lehi seconded the motion, and the Chair said, "I think we're all in favor," after which the meeting was declared adjourned.
