County planning updates: historic preservation rule changes and official county map public hearing scheduled

At the Oct. 8 work session the Morris County Board of Commissioners reviewed planning and preservation items on the agenda, including a technical rule change to the county historic preservation program and a draft official county map.

Staff described the resolution on the historic preservation program (referenced in the meeting as 'resolution 2025-840') as technical: it proposes updates to public access requirements, adjusts cumulative funding thresholds used in construction value calculations, and cleans up language in an easement-termination section. Staff said the revisions are intended to clarify administration of the county program; a county staff member (Joe, as present) was available to answer detailed questions.

Separately, staff circulated a draft official county map and announced a public hearing date. The board set a public hearing for Dec. 3 (referenced in the meeting as resolution 2025-856) and said it would later consider a resolution adopting the map after the public hearing and any required review by engineering and planning stakeholders.
