Morris County staff preview official county map public hearing and technical historic‑preservation rule change; public meeting scheduled on rail clearance

County planning and public works staff briefed the Board of County Commissioners on a series of technical items on the agenda and upcoming public meetings.
Deputy Director Steven Shaw reported that resurfacing work on Newark‑Pompton Turnpike in Pequannock Township is complete and that Schooley's Mountain Road is currently under construction and expected to finish in about three weeks. Shaw also announced a virtual public meeting hosted with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority on Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. about the East Hanover Avenue catenary rail clearance project.
Planning staff described a technical rule change on tonight's agenda (resolution 2025‑840) related to the county historic preservation program. The proposed amendments, staff said, update public access requirements, adjust cumulative funding thresholds used in construction value calculations, and clean up language in the easement termination section; staff described these as technical and invited questions.
Commissioners and staff reviewed a draft official county map that will be subject to a public hearing on Dec. 3 (resolution 2025‑b56) and then will return for formal adoption and publication. Staff noted the last official map was published in 2007 and that the draft has been reviewed by engineering and planning functions and by the planning board.
No formal votes were taken on these items during the work session; staff asked commissioners to refer questions to the planning office and attend the scheduled public meetings where applicable.
