The Cuyahoga Falls City School District board voted to approve the appointment of Tammy Belko as the district’s gifted specialist.
Superintendent and administrators recommended Belko for the role, citing more than 15 years of experience serving gifted learners, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Ashland, and endorsements in reading and gifted intervention. Dr. Selkow told the board Belko had co‑facilitated the district’s middle school honors ELA writing team and had served previously as a gifted intervention specialist in North Ridgeville City Schools.
Belko addressed the board after the vote and thanked trustees for their confidence. "I am thrilled to be a part of the Black Tigers community," she said, and said she looks forward to working with families and staff to support gifted learners.
Board members noted the appointment addresses a long‑standing gap in services for gifted students and thanked staff for their work finding and onboarding the candidate. The appointment was presented as a personnel consent item and approved by the board; the superintendent said additional personnel and routine consent items were included in the superintendent’s report.
Next steps: Belko will begin work with district staff to plan gifted services for the 2024–25 school year.
