Cuyahoga Falls library partnership recognized as top readers honored at board meeting

At the Sept. 11 meeting the board and library staff celebrated students who logged the most minutes in the summer reading challenge and described a new partnership that supplied technology and resources to district classrooms.
Library representatives (including director Andy Herrant, children's librarian Amy Gallant and communications manager Danielle Welling) said the community reading goal of 1.5 million minutes was surpassed by about 13%, with participants logging approximately 1.7 million minutes collectively. They announced a $10,000 share of a $30,000 Ohio Department of Education Libraries Accelerate Learning grant that the library used to buy iPads for teachers; the broader $30,000 award funded subscriptions and services such as tutor.com, TumbleBooks and extra mobile hotspots for public checkout.
Individual students were recognized for extra minutes logged (examples in the presentation included Ryan and Jaquinn Moten, who each logged 2,240 extra minutes; Caden Bollinger and Maxwell Dunbar were also cited). Board members and superintendent thanked library partners for the collaboration and the community for participating in literacy efforts.
