Sayreville Board of Education votes to enter executive session citing personnel, student and attorney–client matters

The Sayreville Board of Education voted at its May 20 meeting to enter executive session to discuss personnel, student matters and attorney–client privileged communications.
The board approved a resolution invoking section 8 of the Open Public Meetings Act, P.L. 1975, c.231, which permits excluding the public from meetings under specified circumstances. Unidentified Speaker 4 read the resolution: “The public shall be excluded from discussion of and action upon the here and after specified subject matters.” The resolution said the public would be excluded for personnel, student matters, and matters falling under attorney–client privilege and that the resolution would take effect immediately.
Unidentified Speaker 1 asked for a motion to go into executive session; Unidentified Speaker 3 moved and also said “Second” in the transcript. A roll call followed. Votes recorded as "Yes" were: Missus Trzakowski; Mister Fernandez; Missus Hernandez; Missus Maldonado; Missus Pabon; Mister Smith; and Missus Bloom. The board recorded seven affirmative votes in favor of the resolution. The resolution states that the subject matter is anticipated to be made public when the need for nondisclosure no longer exists.
Before the motion, the meeting was called to order, the board recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and Unidentified Speaker 1 noted that the meeting notice had been sent to the Home News Tribune and the Star-Ledger, to the borough clerk, and posted on the board office bulletin board in accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act.
The board recessed into executive session after the vote. The transcript does not provide detail about discussions that occurred in the executive session; according to the resolution those matters will be released when nondisclosure is no longer required.
