The Sayreville Board of Education recognized two retirements and reviewed personnel items for the upcoming school year.
Superintendent Dr. Lavey celebrated the careers of Ann Marie (Anne Marie) Christiansen, a paraprofessional with 25 years of service in preschool programs, and Clement (Clem) Kubina, a district maintenance worker since May 2011. Lavey described both as longtime, valued employees whose absence will be felt across the district.
On staffing, the superintendent said district hiring efforts decreased certificated vacancies to only two replacement positions for the 2025–26 school year and summarized transfer and hiring items listed in the agenda and addendum. The personnel committee also reviewed a sidebar agreement with the Teamsters that would incorporate terms for cafeteria drivers into the existing collective bargaining agreement; the administration asked the board to approve that sidebar and authorized Ms. Hill and the superintendent to incorporate its terms into the agreement if ratified.
There was a clerical correction: Miss Hill noted item number 9 for John Velichka’s base salary should be $114,469 (step correction), and total with longevity should be $115,919; the superintendent apologized for the error.
Next steps - Board will consider hiring, transfers, and the Teamsters sidebar on the consent agenda and will be asked to approve salaries tied to the agreement if ratified.
