Visitor offers to write National Register nomination for Vegas Vic; commission to place item on future agenda

During the second public-comment period the commission heard from Peter Maruzzi, who said he is an architectural historian and longtime collector of Las Vegas postcards and ephemera. Maruzzi urged the commission to pursue National Register recognition for the Vegas Vic neon sign and offered to prepare nomination materials at no cost.
"Vegas Vic is probably, in addition to the welcome to Las Vegas sign, the most important neon sign in Clark County and the city of Las Vegas," Maruzzi said, and he offered his services pro bono to draft nomination paperwork for property-owner review. He recommended the city or commission staff contact the property owner (named in the comment as Schiff Enterprises) to assess willingness to participate; Maruzzi noted the National Register designation does not prevent most ordinary property changes and that local-register listings can carry additional restrictions.
The chair indicated the request had been heard and that staff could place the topic on a future agenda for formal consideration and next steps. Staff and commissioners also noted previous outreach attempts to the property owner.
