Board Honors Students and Coaches; Superintendent Recommends New Elementary Supervisor

The Sayreville Board of Education used its June meeting to celebrate academic and athletic achievements and to act on personnel recommendations.
Administrators and board members recognized the Sayreville War Memorial High School Class of 2025’s top 10 students, named the salutatorian (Areeb Rahman) and valedictorian (Marissa Mandola), and acknowledged multiple scholarship and award recipients. The board also honored the AmeriCheer national-champion cheer team, repeat white-division track-and-field champions, and boys and girls lacrosse teams that celebrated consecutive division titles. Coaches and the athletic director highlighted individual records, conference honors and contributions from managers and seniors.
On personnel items, the superintendent introduced Michelle DePaolo and recommended her appointment as the district’s supervisor of elementary instruction. Board members described DePaolo’s progression from elementary teacher to reading specialist and instructional leader and formally recognized her presence at the meeting.
The board also paid tribute to long-serving staff: Mindy Shiffman, a district bus aide, was recognized on the record for more than 20 years of service and recent retirement.
As part of routine business, the board moved and seconded a motion to accept the superintendent’s report, which encompassed agenda and consent items including personnel appointments and renewals; roll-call responses were recorded and the motion passed with noted abstentions on specified addendum personnel items.
Board members closed the student-recognition portion and proceeded to committee reports and the rest of the agenda.
