Approved finance director withdraws; mayor says two candidates remain under consideration

Pontiac Council and mayor told residents on Sept. 10 that the candidate approved to become finance director removed himself from consideration late last week, leaving a leadership gap in the city’s finance office.
"This was devastating news to us," Mayor Granville said, describing the candidate’s withdrawal and telling the council two other candidates had been interviewed and one may be recommended as soon as the following Tuesday. Council members asked whether the city would temporarily outsource finance functions to a firm if needed; the mayor said that remains an option if the remaining candidates decline.
Council leadership said the vacancy heightens concerns about financial operations and reiterated that the finance and personnel subcommittee will press for additional information this week. The council will consider any candidate or contract proposals at upcoming meetings.
