Board approves partnership with Indiana University for sports psychology clinical placements

The RVB scribe board voted Feb. 24 to approve a contract with Indiana University that will allow IU counseling and sport-performance psychology students to gain clinical experience by working with district student-athletes.
Staff described the arrangement as analogous to student-teacher placements: there is no cost to the school corporation, and IU will provide on-site clinical supervision. Board members asked whether the students would be graduate-level participants; staff said they are likely graduate students working toward a master's or doctorate and that IU would provide oversight. Staff said the district will create an oversight procedure and a memorandum of understanding to govern referrals and reporting.
Presenters said the placements are intended both to provide mental-health supports to students and to help coaches learn how to support athletes' emotional regulation. The board approved the contract by voice vote; staff noted they will set up oversight and reporting arrangements with IU and district counseling staff.
