Levy Court grants conditional approval for fire school signage package

Kent County Levy Court granted conditional use approval for application CS2601 on Tuesday, allowing a comprehensive signage package at the county’s fire school campus.
Planner Kiefer said the 28‑acre site includes multiple entities (the fire school, the fire commission and the fire marshal’s office) and that the planning commission unanimously recommended the conditional use, finding the plan met the code’s conditions for signage and wayfinding. Becker Morgan Group senior associate Jonathan Street, representing the applicant, described the proposal as a continuation and modest update of existing signage, including a seal on the building, an LED sign board and updated wayfinding lettering.
"If you've been out to the fire school recently, you've noticed there's about a 12 and a half thousand square foot addition being put on the front of it," Street said, noting the signage complements that work. Commissioner Hall moved to grant conditional approval consistent with staff and RPC recommendations; Commissioner Pepper seconded, and the motion carried on roll call with all present commissioners recorded in favor.
The court’s conditional approval was based on the exhibits and staff report in the meeting packet; no substantive opposition was recorded during the hearing.
