Monticello council approves consent agenda, confirms mayoral appointment and notes business closing

The Monticello City Council approved its consent agenda on Feb. 23, including the claims report dated Feb. 10–23, 2026 and minutes from the Feb. 9 meetings. The motion to approve the consent agenda was moved, seconded, and carried by roll call.
Mayor Stoner nominated Jody Stone to serve on the Monticello Police Pension Board; the council moved, seconded, and confirmed the appointment by roll call. No council member raised questions during the roll call and the mayor announced the appointment had passed.
In his mayoral report, the mayor said Hartfield Book Company will close in May and thanked owner Nicole Stewart for contributions to downtown; he also listed upcoming community events including a blood drive and an antique sale.
