Commissioner seeks survey to split 34-acre surplus parcel on Highway 22 for possible sale

Commissioner Perkins told colleagues the commission’s packet included a highlighted map showing a 34-acre surplus parcel on Highway 22 near the Coosa County line and asked that the county survey and split a roughly 3-acre southern portion that has been determined undevelopable.
Perkins said the larger parcel has been surplus for several years and that prospective buyers have expressed interest only in the small southern portion because of access or adjacency reasons. He requested the county have the land surveyed and create a separate parcel number for the smaller tract so the county can consider selling that portion while retaining the remainder.
Commission discussion reviewed prior contested issues along County Road 721 and noted the smaller southern piece is largely rock and has limited value except to adjacent property owners. Commissioners agreed to proceed with the survey step and to consider a motion regarding any future sale at an upcoming meeting.
