C Spire tells Chilton County it will run fiber along U.S. 31, says backbone could be ready in months

Donnie Dickens of telecommunications company C Spire introduced his firm’s planned fiber-optic construction in Chilton County during the public-comment period.
Dickens said crews will run a backbone north along U.S. 31 and later add distribution lines to reach residences and businesses. "Our first phase is, backbone...we got a government grant," he said, estimating backbone work could be finished in about four months and that distribution to neighborhoods would likely follow the next year. He told commissioners most of the route will be underground, with a small amount of overhead work where the line must cross rail tracks.
Dickens said his team works with prescriptive rights-of-way and plans to coordinate with county roads and property owners to minimize construction impacts. He passed out business cards and offered county staff a single point of contact to handle complaints and coordination as construction proceeds.
Commissioners asked about burial versus overhead placement and about the likely schedule; Dickens reiterated that distribution would come later and invited officials to contact him with questions as the project progresses.
