The Town of Farmington Plan and Zoning Commission held an extensive public hearing Nov. 12 on proposed zoning text amendments that would change how commercial vehicles are regulated on residential properties, and agreed to continue the hearing to Dec. 8 to refine the language.
Shannon Rutherford (staff) told the commission the proposed revision replaces an outdated "one-and-a-half ton" rule with Federal Highway Administration vehicle-class nomenclature and would allow Class 1 and Class 2 vehicles on residential lots by right while limiting Class 3 vehicles by lot size. Rutherford said the draft also adds dimensional limits — an 8-foot height and a 10-foot cargo-length limit — and clarifies where vehicles may be parked and when screening or paving is required. "The proposed regulation aligns vehicle classification with the Federal Highway Administration nomenclature," Rutherford said during the presentation.
