Parish president says bond funds are available; engineers to assess roads and turn-lane work to begin

Parish administration told the Iberia Parish Council on Dec. 11 that bond funds authorized earlier this year have been received and that the next step is engineering assessments to scope repairs and estimated costs for priority road projects.
The parish president said engineers are conducting systemwide assessments and that the administration expects reports in January with plans to advertise for bids in January and February, aiming to begin road work by the end of the first quarter of 2025. "Money's there. The bond money's there," the parish president told members while urging patience for engineering and right‑of‑way work in constrained areas.
Administration also reported several project updates: a bid for the Highway 90 Sewer Improvement was returned within budget; a drone-for-mosquito-control procurement came in within budget at the bid opening; and a notice to proceed for a LA 3212 turn‑lane improvement was issued on Dec. 2 to Glen Lehi Construction, a 120‑working‑day contract expected to complete in April 2025.
Parish staff noted some narrow roads may require additional right‑of‑way acquisition or alternate engineering solutions so the work will proceed where feasible first. The president named larger coastal projects being coordinated with the state Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA), including a commercial canal project listed in the presentation as about $160,000,000 and a Delkham Canal project at roughly $100,000,000, noting continued coordination with CPRA for design and funding.
What happens next: administration expects engineering assessments back in January, will return recommended scopes and cost estimates to council, advertise work as appropriate and proceed with projects where right‑of‑way is clear. The LA 3212 turn‑lane contractor is scheduled to start per the notice to proceed and complete the work in spring 2025.
