First Solar site nears completion; Ambrose to donate road right-of-way for truck access

Parish President Larry told the council the First Solar site at the Acadiana Regional Airport is nearing completion and that an associated water treatment plant is almost ready to operate. "This is a $17,800,000 project the plant will produce 2,000,000 gallons of, of water per day construction is about 90% completed and we expect to be in operation next week," Larry said.
Separately, the council approved an expanded‑agenda item authorizing the parish president to accept a donated right‑of‑way for the Grand Prairie Road and Highway 675 intersection improvement. Administration explained that Ambrose (developer/contractor for a First Solar warehouse) purchased adjoining property and agreed to construct and donate the road widening to allow safe 18‑wheeler access to the site.
"They basically, what they're trying to do with us is donate us the property that we purchased, and, then they're gonna make the road improvements," the parish president told the council. Council members said the donation is time‑sensitive because of imminent hiring and site work at the First Solar facility.
The resolution to accept the donation passed after the council suspended rules to consider the time‑sensitive item. The administration said additional coordination will be needed for right‑of‑way acceptance, alignment with state rights of way and any necessary permitting before construction begins.
