Parish President Larry announced on Feb. 26 that Cajun Industries LLC has leased 61 acres at the Port of Iberia, calling the agreement "a big deal for Iberia Parish." The administration said the project is expected to spur industrial growth, create jobs and strengthen the port's role as a logistics hub.
"This is 61 acres, that Cajun have actually leased from Iberia Parish, from the Port Of Iberia," Larry told the council during his announcements, adding that the move will "boost industrial growth, job creation" and benefit port access and local commerce. He congratulated Port Director Craig Romero and the port commissioners for facilitating the lease.
Parish officials described the agreement as part of a broader effort to attract industry and support workforce needs. Council members acknowledged the port announcement during their district updates; one member urged residents to support a nearby community Mardi Gras event that will temporarily close roads.
The council did not take a formal vote on the lease itself during the meeting; the president framed the item as an administration announcement about an executed lease and an economic milestone. The council later proceeded with routine appointment votes, budget amendments and other agenda items.
Next steps noted by the administration include continued coordination between the port, parish economic development staff and the company on infrastructure and permitting needs as site work and hiring proceed.
