Iberia Parish public-works committee approves crosswalk and speed-signage requests

The Public Works Committee on June 25 approved several traffic-safety actions affecting New Iberia roadways.
Councilman Marcus Broussard asked for crosswalk striping and flashing yellow beacons at 4607 West Admiral Dahl Drive to provide a marked crossing near the Greco logistics and operations center; the committee approved the striping and beacons and instructed staff to coordinate installation.
The committee also approved establishing a 35 mph speed-limit sign on West Stampedel Drive and Industrial Drive in accordance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) placement rules, and it authorized removal of two 'no parking' signs outside the sheriff's headquarters to allow deputies to park in front of that facility. Public-works staff and legal counsel noted that engineering input will be required for signage placement and road-marking changes and asked for cost estimates before full-council implementation on items that require outside engineering.
Next steps: public-works staff will provide cost estimates and coordinate MUTCD-compliant striping and signage; council requested engineering estimates before full council votes where engineering is required.
