Iberia Parish Council on Sept. 10 awarded the 2025 road improvements project phase C to Glenn Leger Construction for $7,480,826.02 and heard updates on a slate of infrastructure projects, including road mobilizations, water-well construction and sewer lift-station work.
Parish administration told the council that bids for the road improvements were opened Aug. 22 and the low bidder, Glenn Leger Construction, was chosen; a pre-construction meeting will set the start date. A pre-construction meeting for the South Lewis Street improvement project was held Aug. 26, with contractor mobilization expected Sept. 22 and publicly communicated detour routes to follow.
President’s staff reported other active projects and solicitations: Barrett Habits & Associates is designing the next portion of the road program (bids due Oct. 2); construction continues on Water Well No. 5 for Waterworks District No. 3 with targeted mid‑October completion followed by a 45‑day lien/closeout period; and smoke‑testing and construction under a $2,100,000 contract with Sage Construction began in the Orange Grove subdivision with completion targeted Feb. 26.
The administration also said the ARA water plant has achieved full functionality after implementation of enhanced monitoring to track consumption minute‑by‑minute and guide solar-capacity analysis, and the UL lift station relocation for Sewer District 1 is being advertised (bids due Oct. 7) with construction estimated at $769,300.
Council members questioned an airport air‑traffic control tower procurement listed on the agenda. Administration said only one bid was received and it was deemed nonresponsive and therefore rejected; staff has contacted the Federal Aviation Administration to explore splitting the work to preserve grant funds.
What the council decided: the motion to proceed with the road contract award and to move forward on the listed capital projects carried during the meeting; where specific contracting votes occurred they were recorded on the council floor as approved.
Looking ahead: staff said pre‑construction meetings will set precise start dates for road projects and that public notifications (door hangers and detour information) will be issued prior to closures.
