Parks Board member Randy Wheeler says he will not seek another term

Randy Wheeler told the Town of Newburgh Parks Board on Oct. 2 that he will not seek reappointment to the board next year after serving two terms.
"I'm going to be not re-upping on my term, during the next year. I'll have served two terms," Wheeler said, adding that he first served as the South Park representative and that he felt it was time to "create a vacuum to bring a new person on board who has new ideas."
Board members thanked Wheeler for his service; the chair noted Wheeler’s term is a driver of the forthcoming vacancy and encouraged interested community members to apply. The town manager said he will remain on the board until the new park work is under way and that the next Parks Board meeting is scheduled for Nov. 6 with the hope of full attendance.
No formal personnel action was taken; members discussed recruiting and the role volunteers and Park Pals can play in supporting parks while the town fills the upcoming vacancy.
