Town of Newburgh officials told the Parks Board on Oct. 2 that the town has signed an agreement to bring higher-capacity fiber and Wi‑Fi to several park properties, which officials said would both improve guest access and lower the cost of placing security cameras.
"We did sign the Aestan agreement, and they are putting the high speed fiber to the amphitheater," the town manager said. The manager said the upgrade will also extend Wi‑Fi to the Old Lock And Dam building and the cottages and will include a free guest zone and dedicated access for acts using the amphitheater.
Officials said the provider (referred to in the meeting as "Astound/Aestan") is working on preliminary construction and that the upgraded service should be in place by the end of the year. The town manager said the overall monthly cost to the town would increase by about $100 but that nearly every town facility will see speed and phone-system improvements.
Board members and staff discussed the range of the free Wi‑Fi and how sign-in terms and acceptable‑use restrictions will apply. The town manager said there will be onboarding pages and terms users must accept and that the town will manage content access consistent with applicable law.
Deputy town staff noted an added benefit: network availability makes wireless camera placement and remote monitoring more affordable. "That'll enable us to act with some camera placements where we currently can't put them," the town manager said.
No formal vote was taken; board members expressed general approval and interest in understanding coverage maps and privacy/acceptable‑use details as staff finalize the installation schedule.
