Herriment described the problem with older loops—when they fail they often show a vehicle present all the time and signals can cycle inefficiently—and said real-time cameras and radar would improve signal timing. He outlined three line items for the New Haven urbanized-area project (preliminary design ~$421,000; final design ~$180,000; construction ~$5,300,000) funded at an 80/20 federal/state match.
The council took a motion to approve the three amendment items (c1, c2 and c3) and approved them on a voice vote.
