The Planning Board received a site-plan amendment application from Go Net Speed for equipment to support fiber-to-the-home service and discussed site-plan and compliance issues tied to the Majestic Regency property.
Terry Turner, representing Go Net Speed, told the board the project would include an enclosed switching cabinet with HVAC and a propane-powered 14 kW generator used for brief outage tests and for backup during power outages. Turner said the equipment produces little noise and that routine maintenance visits and periodic propane deliveries would be the principal post-construction interactions.
Staff and board members raised questions about whether buffers and landscape requirements that apply to lodging facilities would extend to a public-utility use located on the hotel’s parcel; staff noted the property has multiple approved site plans and that some landscape buffers called for in older approvals do not appear to have been installed. Several members said they were unwilling to schedule a site walk or advance the application further until a representative of the Majestic Regency (property owner) was present to explain outstanding noncompliance and how it will be resolved. Board members also discussed a requirement for an up-to-date boundary and existing-conditions survey prior to formal submission.
The board received the application; no final approval was granted. Staff will work with the applicant to clarify the site boundaries and to request the property owner’s attendance at a future meeting.
