A resident asked the Parks, Recreation & Conservancy Committee to consider expanding a community garden in or adjacent to Westview Park after running a small volunteer garden the prior year.
Staff said a community garden in village parks is permitted but requires submission of a site plan to the zoning administrator and that structures must meet setbacks (for example, minimum distances from lot lines). Committee members discussed water access (the prior garden tapped a hydrant with a temporary hose and meter), drainage and soil quality concerns at the creekside plot, fencing or raised beds to deter animals such as groundhogs, and the risk that volunteer projects can lapse and leave maintenance burdens for the village.
Staff asked the resident to submit a site plan; staff (acting as zoning administrator) will review whether the proposal can be administratively approved or whether it must return to the committee for action. No formal approvals were granted at the meeting.
