The Parks, Recreation & Conservancy Committee of the Village of Cross Plains heard updates on the department’s director search and took initial steps on fundraising for a proposed community pool.
An unidentified staff member told the committee the director search is still open and that applications close on the 23rd at 10 a.m. The village board asked the committee to repost the single director position rather than split it into two roles; the posting’s qualifications were softened in places (for example, a five‑year experience requirement was made ‘‘preferred’’ rather than mandatory) to broaden the applicant pool. As of the meeting, staff reported seven applications had been received for the reposting, including some candidates who applied in the first round.
Committee members discussed how posting the full salary range in an earlier round appears to have affected applicant expectations and mix, with staff saying the earlier posting produced 25 applicants and the more recent reposting had fewer but still a ‘‘respectable’’ seven applicants. Staff said the committee and village board will receive an updated tally of applicants on the 23rd and that they will report back on next steps.
On fundraising, staff described plans to solicit letters of support from local businesses and families associated with youth programs, and to build a pool project page on the village website to collect reports, photos and background materials for potential donors. The committee asked the finance committee to compile operating‑cost estimates to help evaluate long‑term affordability.
The committee took no formal action on hiring or fundraising at the meeting; staff said they would continue collecting applicant information and follow up with the board after the application deadline.
