An unidentified Parks Department staff member said Panama City will begin renovations and program rollouts across its parks this spring, including field improvements, youth-league start dates and new programming for girls.
City parks crews are renovating Mid City Field at Oakland Terrace, the staff member said, and "We're installing a brand new scoreboard and adding dugout shades thanks to the generous donation from Bill Kramer GMC Chevrolet." Staff also said crews are aerating softball fields to improve field conditions and keep them game ready.
The Youth Baseball League's opening day is scheduled for March 7, the staff member said, and the city will welcome players and families back to the fields. Officials also announced the city will launch its first Fastpitch Girls Softball League this summer; specific registration information will be released at a later date.
At the MLK Junior Recreation Center the city plans its first spring break day camp in March. "Registration is $50 per child and space is limited," the staff member said, and staff encouraged in-person signups starting when membership fees go into effect March 1.
For registration, schedules and further details officials directed residents to panamacity.gov. Staff closed by urging residents to enjoy the parks and facilities during the coming season.
