The Smithville R-II Board of Education voted to approve the FY26 second budget revision after staff presented a detailed review of revenues, expenditures and variances.
District staff highlighted that anticipated revenues and expenses in funds 1 and 2 differed by less than 1% from prior projections and noted a reserve ratio of 19.6 percent. The presenter said district reserves total "over $7,600,000." A staff member called attention to several function- and object-code changes: a $3,500 increase in one proportionate-share line that exceeded a 10% threshold, adjustments tied to Perkins CTE grants for vocational agricultural and Project Lead The Way programs, and an anticipated reimbursement timing lag for some student needs and special education transportation costs.
The presenter reviewed a fiscal-impact item tied to SB 190 (senior property tax credit) that reduced district receipts by about $330,000, and mentioned the district’s pilot payment from Meta remains the same for the current year but may change next year.
"We are well within our fund balances," staff said while asking the board if there were questions; none were recorded in the transcript before the board was asked to vote on the revision.
The board moved, seconded and approved the FY26 second budget revision (the transcript records motions and seconds but does not include a roll-call vote tally). The presenter said staff will continue monitoring state revenues and expected changes as appropriations work progresses.
