Passaic County recognizes Preakness Valley golf staff; county says course is being considered to host state championship

At its Sept. 24 meeting the Passaic County Board of County Commissioners issued proclamations recognizing long‑time staff at Preakness Valley Golf Course, naming Charles (Chuck) McMonagle, Vincent (Vinny) Spano, Doug Vogel and Samuel (Sam) Giuliano for their contributions to county parks and recreation.

Parks Director Daryl Sparta introduced the group and emphasized the department-wide effort behind course maintenance, saying the success of the facility reflects work across office staff, mechanics, irrigation specialists, seasonal and full‑time laborers, equipment operators and horticultural staff. "It's an entire team effort that has allowed us to get to where we are," Sparta said.

During the presentations Director Bartlett and others noted the course recently hosted a qualifying round for the New Jersey State Golf Association and, in remarks after the proclamations, Bartlett said the association has informed the county that Preakness Valley is being considered to host the New Jersey Public Links Championship in August 2031.

The proclamations recited each honoree's career background, professional certifications and community ties. Staff members who accepted the proclamations thanked the board and noted they look forward to continuing work on maintenance and future events at the facility.

The proclamation readings and the announcement about the possible championship are ceremonial actions recorded in the minutes; no formal county funding or contractual commitments relating to the tournament were recorded during the meeting.
