Platteville council weighs curbside accessible stall for downtown museum

Cody, speaking for the museum, said two accessible stalls exist behind the Rock School but are not visible from the street and the surface conditions and sight lines make those stalls less helpful for visitors. He requested one marked curbside stall in front of the museum to improve access for patrons and visitors.
Several councilmembers supported providing at least one stall; others said one might be insufficient and urged retaining the two existing stalls behind the Rock School because they are useful for events. Councilmembers suggested simple steps such as adding signage showing the rear-accessible stalls and monitoring the new curbside stall’s usage; if it is heavily used, the city could consider adding additional accessible spaces.
No formal vote was taken; the item was discussed as an ordinance amendment to the official traffic map and will return for formal consideration at a subsequent meeting if advanced through ordinance process.
