Council directs staff to finalize City Hall rooftop lease with Lakeside Networks for local wireless Internet

The council directed staff on Feb. 24 to finalize a City Hall rooftop lease with Lakeside Networks to host a non-penetrating Internet repeater intended to extend local wireless broadband service.
Jesse Dixon introduced the item and Andrew Daley, co-owner of Lakeside Networks, outlined the company's local operations and technical approach. Daley described line-of-sight wireless links and hybrid fiber/wireless deployments the company uses to serve multi-tenant buildings and shoreline properties. "We're a Lake Minnetonka-based provider...we're hopeful to work with the city on bringing service to more of the town," Daley said.
Staff recommended a directed authorization for city staff to work with the city attorney and Lakeside Networks to finalize lease terms and return the agreement as a consent item. The council moved, seconded and approved the motion by voice vote.
Next steps: staff will finalize the lease agreement with Lakeside Networks and the city attorney and place the agreement on a future consent agenda for formal execution.
