Summary
The board recognized 8–10 Donovan Elementary students as Community Builders, praised their kindness and leadership, and noted the program is sponsored by Whitt's Frozen Custard; the recognitions were livestreamed and photographed for district promotion.
The Lebanon City Schools Board of Education opened its Feb. 17 meeting by recognizing Donovan Elementary students with Community Builders awards.
Superintendent Sievers and district staff described the program (formerly student/staff of the quarter), noted Donovan Elementary enrolls over 800 students, and called 8–10 students to the front to receive certificates and yard signs sponsored by Whitt's Frozen Custard. Each student was introduced with a short citation describing how they demonstrate respect, responsibility and inclusive behavior; one student was recognized in absentia and staff read a nomination aloud.
Sievers told the assembled families and board members that the awards program is ‘‘one of the best parts of board meetings’’ and said the district is grateful to the sponsor; staff invited winners forward for a group photo and reminded attendees that the meeting was livestreamed on the district’s YouTube page so families who could not attend could view the recognitions.
The district said the Community Builders program will continue to be highlighted at board nights and that communications staff will post photos and a short newsletter item summarizing the event.
